Appearance: Gold-yellow, brass-yellow, pale yellow' does not tarnish; metallic; streak gold-yellow, shiny.
Physical Properties: Hardness: (2.5 - 3.0); Specific gravity: (15.6 - 19.3). Cleavage: none; fracture, hackly; ductile and malleable.
Similar species: Pyrite and chalcopyrite are lighter in weight than gold; are brittle; and will yeild small fragments and powder when the mineral is hammered.
Occurrence: Gold is deposited in veins, igneous rocks and hydrothermal replacement deposits. Gold occurs with pyrite in lode hydrothermal replacement deposits. Many mines in North America are famous for the quality and yeild of gold they produced over the years. The primary locations have been in California, Colorado, Mexico and Ontario.
Miscellaneous: The name is thought to be Anglo-Saxon, and of uncertain origin. The mineral is an excellent conductor of electricity and heat. Gold itself, since it rarely combines with other elements, is mined as the ore of gold.
Conventional Wisdom: Excellent all-purpose, high level gem amplifier and electrical conductor, especially on solar plexus and heart chakras. Strengthens meridians, nerve system, digestion. Positively charged with warming sun energy.
